Mahou Tsukai Tai

Mahou Tsukai Tai is ... hard to describe. On the surface, it is about a small group of high school students, all of whom belong to the much-maligned "Magic Club", who decide to use their magic to, literally, save the world. You see, some time before the show begins, this giant bell appeared over the city of Tokyo. It doesn't seem to do anything other than hang there in the sky. But, our intrepid heroes, led by Club President Takeo, believe the bell is up to something nefarious. And, it appears they are right. Eventually, the bell discovers their magic and sends out androids to capture and study any magic user it senses. In the end, the Magic Club manages to defeat the bell, turning it into a giant cherry tree and, thus, saving the world.
See ... simple right? Well, yeah, on the surface. But, underneath it all, this show is about finding yourself in the world ... about learning who you are and where you belong ... and about having the confidence to believe in yourself enough to make your dreams come true. All of this, of course, is wrapped in and around the adventure of fighting a giant alien bell and just being a normal high school student with "normal" daydreams, desires, and urges. It all makes for a show that is endearing as heck at the same time it is just flat-out funny.
MTT spans a 6 episode OVA and a 13 episode series, which follows the Club's adventures in dealing with the fallout created by the giant cherry tree they made in the OVA. After all, those cherry petals do become a nuisance after a while!
