To fight for love ... does that make you bad?
Kougaigi and his crew play the main villians to the Sanzo-ikkou's hero ... and they do a good job of it, always showing up at just the right times to throw a wrench into what would, otherwise, be a rather uneventful, Sunday-drive type trip out west. Still, things are seldom as black and white as they seem, and Saiyuki is no exception to that rule. This show lives in the gray areas of the heart and soul ... where bad guys fight for love and honor, and, in their own way, take on heoric proportions. Just being cast as the villian doesn't make you the "bad guy". When you fight for love and honor ... when you love someone enough to tear down the whole world if that's the only way to get them back ... does that really make you "bad"?
Yeah, well ... Chin Yisou, Gyokumen Koshu, and Dr. Nii probably all qualify as "bad". But, Kougaigi isn't. He's just misunderstood. No, really! I swear! o.o
