Looking Out for Number One ...
Along with the Clow Cards, Sakura ends up "inheriting" (for lack of a better word) two powerful guardians. The loveable and often silly Kero-chan/Kerberos, who is with her from the very beginning. And, the winged, overly-grumpy Yue, who shows up a bit further down the line, much to Sakura's surprise.
Represented by the Sun (Kero) and Moon (Yue), they seem to be opposite in every way.
Kero is warm and often goofy. He helps Sakura on her quest to gather all the cards, and is her most ardent supporter from day one. He seems to be a great source of comfort for Sakura throughout the whole process, and he is genuinely protective and fond of her -- something we see confirmed during Final Judgment, when he must stand aside and watch Sakura fight alone.
Yue is cold and distant. He emerges full of bitterness and grief over the loss of his previous master, and he doesn't want a new one. He seems determined to make Sakura fail, convinced that it would be better to forget anyone and anything you loved than to have to live with the pain of loss. Eventually, Sakura manages to melt even Yue's cold heart. At first, he does nothing more than acknowledge her as his "mistress." The loss of his previous master is still fresh and painful to him. His heart is broken and grieving. But, along the way, Sakura manages to heal even Yue's hurts, and he, too, becomes her staunch supporter and devoted guardian.
