Nightwalker: Sketches

   Home/Change Series

Through collecting and loving Saiyuki artwork, I have become a huge sketch fan --- in particular, I'm mad for gengas. (Hope I got that plural correct!) I never thought I would reach this point. I always thought I would prefer cels over sketches ... but, I can honestly say that is no longer the case. I think I like them equally as well. I love the way the sketches have that "human" element to them. You can see the lines of the drawing ... the way they hesitate or the short, sharp pencil strokes made when the artist was sketching like a maniac. And, often, I think you can see a bit of the artist in there, too. To me, it's like holding a piece of rough pottery in your hand and feeling the throwing marks made by the potter's fingers as he/she dragged them through the clay. It reminds me that, behind every bit of anime beauty, behind every thrill and chill, behind every stunning piece of artwork, is a creative soul, heart, and mind.

So, given my love for the papery side of production art life ... combined with the difficulty I'm having in locating Shido cels ... I give you my Nightwalker sketch gallery! Quake in fear, peasants!

OK ... so ... don't quake. Just enjoy the sketches.
